Offered here is a great Cruise book for the USS David R. This is a cruise book for the USS David R. A USS Spruance DD-963 class Destroyer. This book chronicles the 1990 WestPac cruise of the David R Ray where she sailed from her homeport of Long Beach Calif. Then sailed west to Pearl Harbor to refuel & re-provision and some Liberty time for the crew prior to again heading west to Subic Bay in the Philippines where the crew found the base in lock down and all were restricted to the facilities on the base only. The David R Ray spent time at the Subic Bay base to again refuel, take on provisions and do some maintenance work all the while giving liberty to the crew in the limited services and sights that could be found on the base. The David R Ray then patrolled the South China Sea and proceeded to the Arabian Sea and Persian Gulf area where Saddam Hussein had invaded neighboring Kuwait and the Ray became part of the multi national naval force that patrolled the gulf to insure that oil tankers where not attacked as they sailed in the region. Again on her journey east The David R Ray continued to patrol assigned areas of operations to protect US interest in the regions. They are a great reference for model makers, naval enthusiasts, or historians. Ray was eventually towed out to sea and expended in a sinkex on July 11th 2008 during RIMPAC 2008. In deep water off of Kauai. 96 pages, heavily illustrated in black and white.
