Vintage The North Face M81 Woodland Goretex Jacket, SEALS, DEVGRU, MARSOC. If you searched for one of these you already know what these are and how rare they are. For those who don’t, this is an authentic early production run of The North Face’s lightweight goretex jacket prototypes produced for the US special forces Navy Seals, Rangers, Green Berets etc. In the late 80’s and until very early 1990 (the other example I have listed is of the later run). I’m the second owner of this jacket and it has been with me around the world on deployments and been in the field even as late as last year. This jacket is packed full of features that if you think it’s age about when it was made will blow your mind. It has a brimmed helmet capable hood with cinch w/cord locks and anatomical cut to allow visibility, Velcro adjustable cuffs, waist cinch and STOWABLE CHEST POCKET AND THEY ARE LIGHT. Most prototypes and early runs like this one were made in 1985 this one is harder to date due to the tag but is quite early. Ing a brick right now hearing I still use it it still works really well and keeps chugging right along and has kept me dry many a rainy op and cold night and been the envy of many a Sailor, Marine and Ranger in the years I’ve worn it wanting to know where I got one. As you can see it does have a little wear but is still in good usable condition and will serve you well. I loved it so much when I ran across a second (much later production) a few years back I snapped it up. There are a couple of holes one on the sleeve and one on the body does not go through all layers (pictured probably from spalling or just wear). There is a fray by the inner stow pocket zipper but considering this jacket is probably pushing 38 years old and has done 2 stints active duty military that should tell you how well built it is. People have asked how to tell this is a TNF jacket. Well this one is the design, era but is missing the location and for those who don’t know it’s location they put on the later production ones that is their old headquarters location printed on the tag shown on the other example I have offered for sale and this one side by side.
