VA-22 USS CORAL SEA US Navy A-7C&E pilot skull cap VA22 Squadron Fighting Redcocks. I took the 2nd and 3rd pictures on the 1974-75 Coral Sea CVA-43 cruise. The 2nd picture is one of my favorites. The 3rd picture is a VA94 VA-94 A7 that got away from the plane handlers while they were moving it. It rolled over the side and got caught in the nets much to the relief of the plane captain (I assume) who was sitting in it. They brought in the crane and when they hosted it back up to the flight deck, one of the main gear tires blew. Sounded like a bomb going off. That was pretty exciting too (for a second or two). I was at NAS Lemoore with VA-22 when we deployed out of Alameda. Pictures are part of the description. Established as VF-63 on July 27, 1948. VF-63 redesignated VA-63 in March 1956.
