Extraordinary Vintage World War II — Pearl Harbor Relic. Sterling Silver Baseball Championship Medal From Crew Member Aboard USS RALEIGH. In Excellent Vintage Condition. This is an extremely rare, original and authentic Baseball Championship Medal that belonged to a member of the crew aboard the USS Raleigh during World War II. The Raleigh (CL-7) weas an Omaha Class Light Cruiser and was moored at Berth 7-12 at Pearl Harbor on the morning of December 7, 1941. This sterling silver medal was awarded to members of the USS Raleigh Baseball Team, many of whom were aboard on that fateful day at Pearl Harbor. This comes from the estate of R. Taylor is mentioned in multiple action reports providing accounts of the events that unfolded that day. Attached to it is a red, white and blue ribbon. The ribbon and medal measure approx. 2.75″ in length, with a 1.5″ maximum width and weights a third of an ounce. The medal and ribbon are in good vintage condition, given its history. Obviously, having survived Pearl Harbor, World War II and the 75 years that have elapsed since, the medal and ribbon show signs of wear one would expect. The ribbon has some staining and the pin on the reverse is bent, while the finish on the medal shows some tarnish and wear. This medal is, however, a truly unique witness to history and testament to the American spirit that survived the events of Pearl Harbor and World WarII. All photos taken without flash.
