The blade has the name of the original owner A. We acquired the piece from Mr. Taylor’s family near us, here in California. We believe the sword dates to the World War 1 era. The sword measures 35- 1/2 inches in overall length. Weight of the sword and scabbard is 2 pounds 12 ounces. The scabbard has the stamped number 10 at several points. The blade is in very good condition on the side with the Taylor name, with a few spots of light surface rust concentrated in a 2 inch area about 6 inches from the tip. The other side has more substantial rust as shown in the photos, especially from 6 and 1/2 inches from the tip to 11-1/2 inches in, with damage to the surface finish. The rust appears old. We have provided a couple pictures that show this area. Metal on the scabbard and handle has a patina, with worn areas where the outer Brass color layer has worn through the underlying Copper colored metal. Physical condition of the metal pieces is very good. The black areas on the scabbard between the metal pieces show some surface scratches and wear. Overall, we rate the Scabbard and Sword as being in good to very good condition. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Militaria\Militaria (Date Unknown)\Navy”.
