ORIGINAL WORLD WAR II UNITED STATES ARMY & MARINE CORPS COLONEL – NAVY CAPTAIN SHOULDER INSIGNIA, (1-1/2 x 3/4 INCH) SIZE, PIN-BACK. “STERLING” (AMCRAFT STARBURST PATTERN). The insignia for a colonel is a silver eagle which is a stylized representation of the eagle dominating the Great Seal of the United States (which is the coat of arms of the United States). As on the Great Seal, the eagle has a U. Shield superimposed on its chest and is holding an olive branch and bundle of arrows in its talons. However, in simplification of the Great Seal image, the insignia lacks the scroll in the eagle’s mouth and the rosette above its head. On the Great Seal, the olive branch is always clutched in the eagle’s right-side talons, while the bundle of arrows is always clutched in the left-side talons. The head of the eagle faces towards the olive branch, rather than the arrows, advocating peace rather than war. As a result, the head of the eagle always faces towards the viewer’s left. Some colonel eagles from the 1920s to the 1950s faced the arrows, though this is no longer done. The full-sized colonel eagle is exactly two inches in diameter from the tips of each wing. This is a very unique piece of art by one of the foremost sand artists R. It features the iconic wings of gold and is matted/framed. The sand artists is rough textured and in the light has elements that sparkle (just like sun hitting sand in the beach). The sand art piece is approximately 8″ x 10″ bordered by a 1.25 cloth matte and that is bordered by a raised wood style frame. Both the outer frame and the matte have light scratches or nicks/dings present. The face of the sand artists has a few light discoloration spots, but overall it’s in good shape with good color. The size of the frame is 18.25″ wide by 16.5″ and is approximately 1.5 raised. Please review pictures provided for details of condition and please ask any questions before purchasing.

As it came out of the estate. On the inside front cover it is written happy birthday to Sally low from uncle lud Nov 1945. The front cover has a few rips in it. Few of the pages are loose. Most of the patches are glued to the pages. There is a few more patches than what are pictured. But they are Corps, command and non valuable patches. Album shows wear from storage. Pages are flaking from ages. There is no brick and mortar store.
