Buzz Rickson WW11 NavyPeacoat. Brand new with tags. Last one in my inventory. Chest – armpit to armpit = 23. Shoulders- seam to seam = 18.5. Waist – across the middle = 22. Sleeves – seam to cuff end = 26. Length – bottom of back collar to hem = 30.5. Navys original Pea Coat was fabricated from heavy, 36-ounce melton wool and, up until the late 1930s, featured black urea buttons displaying an anchor surrounded by 13 stars; the 13 stars were derived from the original 13 states when the United States became an independent nation and broke its ties to England in 1776. The large-sized collar of the coat was designed to block strong ocean winds and the corduroy-lined side pockets helped thwart the numbing effect on hands from the biting winter seas. By the late 1930s, officers coats were redesigned: The heavy, melton wool was relegated only for the enlisted ranks Pea Coats and the 13-star buttons were changed to the fouled-anchor design still employed to this day. Clearly, it was WWII that catapulted the Pea Coat to iconic status as sailors home on leave or traveling to their next duty could be seen in every town, and then there was the war bond poster of the Five Sullivan boys; an inspiring image forever frozen in time with all five handsomely attired in their winter blues and Pea Coats. The popularity of this coat design grew increasingly in the post-WWII decades and has remained an iconic staple in the wardrobe of any well-dressed man or woman to this day. Pea Coats exist in many forms now, most of which are some sort of fashion mutation, and all pale in weight and quality of fabric and construction to the issue garments produced prior to the late 1950s except this Buzz Ricksons masterpiece! A cool Buzz Rickson US Navy N-1 deck jacket. It is in well worn condition with staining in places, some from where patches have been removed. There is no real damage but for a little seam fraying and a frayed button hole. Two of the buttons are also broken. The zip runs fine and the lining is clean. Please make sure you check all the photo’s carefully to get a clear picture of the condition. The label reads Size X-Small. Please follow the measurements, they are in inches with the jacket laid flat. The measurements have not been doubled. Armpit to armpit – 19. Nape of collar to hem – 24 1/2. This Buzz Rickson replica is no longer available and so also very hard to come by. Expect the usual attention to detail from this great Japanese brand, including the faded “USN” insignia on chest, inverted pleat patch pockets on the waist. Also includes hookless zipper, will knit collar and cuffs and correct BAUER style contractor label at the inside neck. The condition of the jacket is used, but it is in full working order. There are signs of wear which in my opinion makes the jacket look even more authentic (as it supposed to be around 80years old). The USN stencil is slightly faded , there is also a slight fade on the crease of each sleeve which again all adds to the charm of a modern repro of a classic US navy jacket. The size is labeled at 42. Check the exact measurements below. Pit to pit 22.75. Across shoulders at back 19. Shoulder to cuff end 26. Pit to cuff 21.5. Back (base of collar to hem) 25.75. Upon closer inspection there is a small snag or hole in the left cuff knit. I’ve pictured this in the last photo. Please be aware, but it is only noticeable when looking for it, and of course doesn’t affect the wear or look of the jacket. I just want to be thorough… Please shoot questions at will!
