He entered the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland in the summer of 1947. Graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree on 1 June 1951 then immediately joined the Fleet, the Marine Corps, and the U. Of our 751 graduates, 28 rose to flag and general officer rank. Two of our foreign classmates became admirals in their nation’s navies. Our classmates served with distinction in combat in Korea and Vietnam. Four received the Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism, one posthumously; one was posthumously awarded the Army Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism.
