Historic LIFE VEST by Atlantic & Pacific Manufacturing, Brooklyn NY. In 1956, it was transferred to the US Navy and renamed the USS Observation Island. It was the platform for the first at-sea firing of the Polaris missile in 1959. Plenty more history is available online. One small hole and tear on right shoulder. See pic for close-up. PLEASE NOTE: FOR DISPLAY ONLY. THE FLOATATION MATERIAL INSIDE IS HARD AND UNLIKELY TO FLOAT.

Listing is for a super-rare, vintage U. Navy/Mare Island Naval Base collectible desk organizer. It is brand new in original box and is in perfect, unused condition. Included: Beautiful, ornately carved, walnut wooden box with an etched, scenic lid depicting a breached, USN submarine and a Mare Island Naval Shipyard Logo b rass plate. The lid is secured with brass piano hinges on back and opens to reveal a three-compartment box. Set includes a brass ink pen which fits the well on the box lid and a brass nameplate with adhesive backing. It is blank and awaiting the inscription of its future owner.. The quality of materials and craftsmanship of this piece is top-notch and condition is MINT. Only exception is pen may need a new ink insert.
