The plaque measures 9″ x 9.6″, heavy wood and painted metal. The heavy painted metal and hard wood plaque is in very good vintage, original condition; original painted colors are still bright. There’s a mounting wire behind, so you can put it right up in your office or man cave (or lady’s loft). Regarding the program, the USS Porterfield was a Fletcher Class Destroyer that saw a lot of action in WW2 and into the Korean War. US Navy Destroyer Squadron Five (DESRON 5) Hand Painted Metal Command Plaque. From the estate of Capt. David Nash, Navy Cross Recipient for his actions during WW2 while serving in the Philippines as a Lt. On the river gunboat USS Mindanao PR-8 (and who subsequently survived the Bataan Death march upon being captured after the Mindanao was sunk). Later in his career, Capt. Nash went on to Command DESRON 5, during which time he received the plaque featured in this listing. The hand painted metal plaque measures 7.5″ x 7″; the hard-wood base measures 11.75″ x 11.75″. Overall the piece is in very good+ antique condition. There’s a mounting wire in the back for convenient wall hanging. I will include the article shown in pic #5 with the plaque.
