Vintage US Navy Officer Long Wool Bridge Dress Coat with Gold US Navy Eagle Buttons 37R. By looking at other similar coats online it might be a pre 1970’s coat. This is made of thick wool fabric and inside lining. The shoulders have sewn on fabric straps for naval epaulets or rank shoulder boards. Jacket has a total of 12 gold Gilded Waterbury navel buttons, 8 on the front, two under the collar and two attached to the back adjustment strap. Color of wool fabric appears to be dark black, not dark blue. The collar lapel’s have a brass stamped insignia that shows an anchor with two crossed boat oars. These are sewn on to the jacket with thick black button thread and are easily removable. Shoulder to shoulder is 17 inches, shoulder to cuff is 25 inches. Caller top to bottom edge is 49 inches, armpit to armpit is 18 inches. Inside pocket label reads Overcoat, Man’s Wool Melton. Blue, Navy Shade NO 3346. 100% Wool, Pembroke, INC. Below is a Formal detailed description of the jacket from a US Navy website. This USN Bridge Coat is a coat that speaks class. It is made of 100% melton wool making it warm and thick. The gold buttons on this coat feature an eagle perched atop an anchor – a US Navy symbol. This coat is genuine navy issue and is made in the USA. Genuine US Navy Issue. Side hand warmer pockets with flannel lining. Back waist belt with gold buttons. 2 Shoulder board loops on each shoulder. “Often imitated, never duplicated” is heard commonly enough, but with authentic military wear, that saying rings true. There are similar coats that you will see on the street that are modeled after the Navy Bridge Coat, but none of them comes close to this. This double-breasted US Navy Bridge coat is made in the USA and is the real deal, not an imitation or a duplicate. Navy Bridge Coat is like the peacoat, but longer in length.
