A beautiful desk model of the USS Whale (SSN-638) Nuclear Submarine. Nicely mounted on a wooden base which measures 13 1/2 in length. The heavy model measures 11″ in length and the wooden base is 3 1/2″ wide. Two fins have broken off, one has been glued back on and one is missing. The brass plaque names the person it was presented to and from whom. Overall this is a very cool piece, probably could have the missing fin replaced if your crafty. Not made from plastic or metal but is heavy and well made.

Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay is a base of the United States Navy located adjacent to the city of St. Marys in Camden County, Georgia, on the East River in southeastern Georgia, and 38 miles from Jacksonville, Florida. The Submarine Base is the U. Atlantic Fleet’s home port for U. Navy Fleet ballistic missile nuclear submarines capable of being armed with Trident missile nuclear weapons. This is a large wood plaque measuring 10.75″ tall x 11″ x 3/4 thick. The wood has a variety of small scratches, edge dings, and some like discoloration spots. The brass center piece measures a large 6 in diameter and shows light scratches, edge dings, and light discoloration areas. Please review pictures provided and ask any questions before purchasing. In 1915, the Headquarters of the 5th Naval District. In April 1917, shortly after the United States entered World War I. The Naval Operating Base (NOB) and other facilities were established. By 1918, there were 34,000 enlisted men at the base. However, by the war’s end, the base was reduced in personnel and put into a standby mode.
