Each cutaway is an accurate, three dimensional, architectural model. This fine six layer cutaway accurately displays every compartment in amazing detail. Years of research have gone into the development and those who have seen the cutaway have praised its accuracy. Original blueprints and period photographs along with hand measurements, if possible, are used for the creation of each design. Approximately two months is then devoted to drawing the original multi-layer template for each item. Original construction blueprints, photographs, deck plans, books and even advertising brochures are used to guarantee the accuracy of each cutaway. Once the design work is complete, a computer-controlled laser is then used to cut and mark specially selected layers of basswood. After a layer has been cut, it is cleaned and carefully mounted to a baltic blue matte board. A total of six layers of basswood are hand assembled for each cutaway. When the cutaway is complete, it is then sealed behind glass in a cherry finish frame. The highest level of quality in both work and materials is maintained to ensure museum quality cutaways. This integrity in both design and modeling skill has brought endorsements by many of the nation’s museums, historical societies and memorial associations. We can also customize this cutaway as any boat of the Sturgeon Class for no additional charge. The design will remain the same as pictured but, will carry your desired hull number and nameplate. The Greater Underwater Propulsion Power Program (GUPPY) was initiated by the United States Navy after World War II to improve the submerged speed, maneuverability, and endurance of its submarines. This six layer cutaway is so finely detailed that museums have given their stamp of approval. Each cutaway is fully equipped with the North Atlantic sail, PUFFs, Chin Mounted Sonar and the additional lengthening for the new sonar room and battery space. These are created for each order. For your consideration, this beautiful hand-crafted vintage model yacht. Fully rigged sails crafted of 100% cotton fabric. Deep navy blue keel, red pinstripe and wood tones; sails are a tea-stained ecru color. Fantastic craftsmanship and details. Measures 38.5″ at longest point, 33″ high, approximately 5.5 wide. Perfect for nautical/maritime style decor, or for summer time! Excellent vintage condition overall with some small flaws; A few minor spots on the sails as shown, minor separation cracks in the wood due to age, some discoloration spots to the brass accents, some of the little hooks missing from the sails, etc. There is a hairline crack in one corner of the base holder, but the structural integrity remains. It has not been touched up with black paint but that could easily be done. Overall in very nice shape. MK-6 Navy Practice DUMMY WOOD rounds during the early 1940’s. These are the original wood practice rounds used in training our sailors during WW2. Great for décor, doorstop, conversation piece, or to mantel in the man cave. You may find other practice shells but none this unique. Dated 1944, they are a true piece of artillery memorabilia. Still in original box but there has been some degradation overtime… Mostly in very nice condition but will probably need some clean up if you want to polish them up. We do make a cut on the side of the box to check the wood shell for any damage. The wood grain will vary from shell to shell. 6″ x 6″ x 36.
