USN Aircraft Carrier USS Essex Brass Medal Emblem in the middle of this solid brass dish. This is a Brass Circular Insignia Medal with the Latin inscription E Navibus Pugnissima – Motto for the United States Navy’s Aircraft Carrier – USS ESSEX. An eagle clutching a shaft of wheat and acanthus leaves, with Poseidon’s hand holding a trident with the number “9” superimposed in front of the eagle. A once in a lifetime opportunity for collectors to own a piece of naval history / war memorabilia of this Navy Aircraft Carrier. There’s a hook on the backside to hang on wall – or use as a valet tray on a dresser. Marked: “USS ESSEX – 9 – E NAVIBUS PUGNISSIMA”. Measures approximately: 6.15″ diameter x 0.6″ H. Pre-owned, very good vintage condition – some scratches and scuffs due to age and I leave it to its new owner whether to polish it – See photos for complete condition details. Essex received the Presidential Unit Citation, and 13 battle stars for World War II service: 4 battle stars and the Navy Unit Commendation for Korean war service.
