The collection includes 1 Admiral Willaim Mayhew Folger [1844 1928] served in the American Civil War, Spanish American War, Commander-in-Chief U. Pacific Fleet, 2 Admiral Arent S. Crowninshield [1843 1908] served in the American Civil War and the Spanish American War. During the Civil War he served on the Ticonderoga and participated on the assault Fort Fisher. During the Spanish American War, he was appointed to the Naval War Board and had a large part in the United Straes Naval Operations planning that resulted in resounding victories like the Battle of Manila Bay. 3 Admiral Edwin Stewart [1837 1933] served in the American Civil War, later as Paymaster General and Chief of the Bureau of Supplies and Accounts of the U. 4 Admiral Walter S. Crosley [1871 1939] served in the Spanish American War, awarded the Navy Cross for his action, later served in World War I, secured and rescued a party of Americans out of Russia while serving as an attache in Russia. The USS Crosley is named in his honor. 5 Admiral Richard C. Dean [1833 1910] began his naval career 1854 after graduating from medical school, served in the American Civil War as a surgeon, later appointed as Fleet Surgeon. 6 Admiral David W. Bagley [1883 1960] served aboard the Great White Fleet 1908, served as a destroyer commander World War I, and commanded during World War II. 7 Admiral David M. Kindleberger [1834 1921] began his naval career in 1859 as an assistant surgeon, during the American Civil War he served in combat during numerous naval engagements, promoted to surgeon in 1862 and fleet surgeon in 1880. 8 Admiral Edward E. Hayden [1858 1932] noted for his work as a scientist, in the areas of hydrography, meteorology, timekeeping and served as the Secretary of the National Geographic Society of Washington among many other prestigious posts.
