Available is a United States Pacific Fleet letterhead with the citation to Lieutenant James G. The document is hand signed by C. Nimitz, Admiral and Commander in Chief. James Gold Andrews, Jr. Its second patrol resulted in the sinking of the submarine, I-43. Andrews later commanded USS Sabalo and two other submarines after the War. Retiring in 1968 as a Captain, Andrews held two Silver Stars, a Legion of Merit, two Bronze Stars, a Joint Service Commendation Medal and a Navy Commendation Medal. He died in 1996. Research includes some pages from the United States Naval Academy and War Patrol reports for the Aspro. The document is in very nice shape. It hasn’t been folded. It just shows some light staining where it was paper clipped to a cardboard stiffener. Please be sure to check out the large photos I have posted and judge condition for yourself. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
