This listing is for a large original hand-drawn pencil technical drawing on vellum of a Convair Submersible Seaplane prototype that was designed for a contract granted to Convair (General Dynamics) by the United States Navy in the 1960’s. The plane’s intended use was for anti-submarine warfare. The craft’s operational deployment would be to scout for enemy submarines from the air and, if any were detected, land on the water, submerge, and engage them underwater using torpedoes. Convair built scale models which were tested, and concluded that the craft would likely work, however the project ultimately did not get beyond that stage before cancellation by congress. Fascinating piece of engineering, military and aviation history! The document has some light wear from age/storage, primarily to the outer edges, but it has been rolled and has no fold creases. Length: 71.5 Inches.
