United States Navy Silver plated serving piece. It is likely a crumber but you may use it however you choose. Piece bears a very early USN monogram. The Pirate’s Lair listed several 1800’s items with this same USN monogram and those folks look like they know what they’re doing. Their pieces were not for sale. Piece is marked with the monogram. “USN” on the front. Back is marked “1847 Rogers Bros A1 16″. The Rogers company began using the 1847 marking in 1862. The company later incorporated with International Silver in 1898, and pieces made after the merger usually also have the IS marking. The newest they could be is 1898 however the Threaded Oval pattern is a very early 1800’s pattern and these are likely closer to the 1860’s range. Piece measures just about 12 inches long. Piece is in very good to excellent condition. The corner of the blade is bent a little bit. Blade has some very tiny discolored tarnish spots a thorough polishing will remedy.
