The evening dress uniform was restored and continued under the 1959 order. The Dinner Dress Blue/White Jacket uniforms feature a short mess jacket with three buttons on either side, worn open with a black bow tie and gold cummerbund. The dinner dress uniform for chief petty officers consisted of a service coat (white for summer – Blue for winter) and blue trousers. An optional standard cap with white cover and gloves were available but not required unless an outer jacket was worn. Chiefs wore a plain white shirt and a black bow tie and a rank insignia and service stripes on the left sleeve. Each gold service strip indicates 4 years continuous honorable active duty.
