US Civil War Model 1852 Navy Officers Sword. The ricasso is marked with a “B” with a crown over it and a “S” in a shield, on the underside of the guard by the quillion there is also an E. With 3 stars over it, this represents E. Lyon, all these marks are of French manufacture, most likely Klingenthal. The sharkskin grip is 95% complete, heaviest wear is at the seam. The twisted wire wrap is 100% complete and slightly loose. The guard does have a wiggle to it. The pommel cap is missing. The beautifully etched blade. Has 2 different anchors, stars, a U. Banner, an eagle standing on a cannon, rope with acorns and leaves, and other etched designs with what looks like the remains of a gold washed background, there is a spiral design up the spine, it. Is straight, mostly unsharpened (there is evidence of sharpening on the last 7 1/2″ towards the tip and the tip itself is sharp), the edge does have some nicks, the blade has an even darkened patina with age spots scattered throughout and some surface rust mainly on the last 4″ by the tip. Length of the blade is 29″ (1 1/16″ wide and 5/16″ thick), and the sword overall is 34 1/8″. Check out my other Civil War Items! WE CAN’T FIX A PROBLEM IF WE AREN’T INFORMED THAT THERE IS ONE!
