An original USN N-4 DECK / UTILITY JACKET with FOUR PATCHES related to aircrew training, a USS KEARSARGE CRUISE Patch & VS-29 chest patch – see photos. The jacket is labelled a 36 R and has a Vietnam Era Nomenclature: DSA – 100 – 2752. Chest is a 36 but could fit up to a 38 maximum. Total length center back: collar to waist is 27 inches, the sleeves are 23 inches on the outside seam and 18 inches inside. Fully functional brass CONMAR Bell Pull Zipper. Two slant pockets intact. Six original black button wind flap closure. All four patches are fully embroidered cut-edge construction and are the large size associated with the 1950’s to 60’s era. AIRANTISUBRON (VS-29) patch is 4.5 inch diameter (excluding the bottom tab) and operated Grumman Tracker S-2E aircraft from Kearsarge CV-33 as part of CVSG-53. On the jacket reverse VT-21 (Redhawks) was an advanced jet pilot training squadron flying F-9F Cougar a/c from NAS Kingsville Texas – patch is slightly oval 5 inches top to bottom and 4.5 inches across – minus the bottom tab. NAS CORPUS CHRISTI patch is 5 inches long top to bottom in the center and is 5.5 inches across the top. This Naval Air Station operated a number of training squadrons including multi engine a/c types. The USS Kearsarge Far East Cruise patch is 6.25 inches long in the center and is 7 inches across below the curve. This was the third trip to the Gulf Of Tonkin for Kearsarge and this anti-submarine carrier took part in Operation Sea Dragon, against the Vietcong & North Vietnamese. This 1967 Cruise was the last for this Essex Class carrier, as she went into storage and was scrapped in the early 1970’s. Slight fading of the blue color from service use and age, and some minute cuff edge fraying (hardly significant). Label a bit loose on the thread but overall a great looking jacket from the early Vietnam Era.
