Victory in the Pacific hinged on air power, as US Navy and Marine Corps fighter pilots battled Japanese Zeros in deadly dogfights over the Solomons, Leyte Gulf, and in the Great Marianas Turkey Shoot until air supremacy in the Pacific was won. Naval aviators of WW2 were issued the classic AN-6530 flight goggles for eye protection in the cockpit. This pair of US Navy USMC Marine WW2 F4U CORSAIR F6F HELLCAT PILOT AN-6530 FLIGHT GOGGLES are in excellent condition, with heavy drying and stiffening to the face piece, making them suitable for a static display on a shelf only, some light scattered spot patina to the metal frames, three small spots of orangish brown soiling at the interior head strap, and with some light scattered age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the goggles are in excellent shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, they boast the original clear glass lenses, sport a fully intact elasticized gray cotton head strap, and are stamped “A-N / 6530″ on the metal nose bridge. The goggles feature the traditional gray rubber face piece, exhibit a crisp, clean chamois lining, and bear the classic metal “tube” vents at each side of the top frames, denoting manufacture by the legendary American Optical Company. They are complete with the original USN/USMC WW2 Cardboard Box in excellent condition, with some brownish spot soiling at the left side of the top lid, and with some light scattered age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the box is in excellent shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it carries the traditional FRAMES: FLYING GOGGLES WITH CUSHIONS / CONTRACT NO. NXS 1562 / AMERICAN OPTICAL COMPANY nomenclature stamping along the top lid, retains the original waxed paper packaging, and the set is a beautiful example of very rare, original.
