This is a original Vietnam War era USN Vought F-8 Crusader Supersonic Fighter Pilot’s Complete tailhook assembly. This tailhook was mounted on the bottom of the tail of the aircraft and was used to stop the airplane when it landed on the aircraft carrier. This tailhook is 39 x 6 x 6 inches and weighs 27 pounds. The F-8 Crusader first saw service in 1959. It saw lots of combat during the Vietnam War and is credited with many MIG shoot downs. When you are out of F-8’s you are out of fighters.
