Offered for sale is this late 50s USN G-1 flight jacket made under the MIL-J-7823 (AER) specification by LW Foster Sportswear in a rare size 36. The jacket is estate fresh, completely original, in good honest condition, and ready for a new home. I will attempt my best to describe condition, as follows: The moutton collar is fluffy, without bald spots, and aged to a beautiful amber red. The dark seal goatskin leather shell is soft and free of any major marks. The wool knits are free of major damage (one small are near the end of both sleeve cuffs that could stay as-is or be darned with little hassle- suffice it to say, Ive seen much much worse). The rayon lining is clean and still strong lest one abrasion hole and one small rip near the left side of the collar (both could also be mended or left as-is). All buttons are preset, as are both the main collar tag (LW Foster Sportswear) and pocket size tag (36). The aluminum Conmar zipper works well. There is one tooth missing, but it does not affect the ability to move the blackened bell puller up or down, and you can open and close the jacket without issue. There is a modest odor that should quickly dissipate with fresh air (as an estate item, it has been in storage for years until now). The windflap shows wear is correctly punched USN. And the back of the collar is correctly not stenciled USN, which were phased out by the mid 50s under different contracts. Tagged 36, but please refer to the following measurements to decide fit. Chest (armpit to armpit): 20. Shoulders (tip to tip): 18.75. Sleeves (shoulder seam to end of cuff): 24. Length (base of collar seam to end of waist knit): 25.25.
