The US Navy fought a global war during WW2, from the balmy South Seas to the howling gales of the North Atlantic. Late in the war, the US Navy contracted with the famous Imperial Cutlery Co. Of Providence, RI for a small run of unmarked M-3 trench knives and M-6 leather scabbards. This US Navy WW2 M-3 FIGHTING TRENCH KNIFE is in good condition, with some sharpening to the blade edge and the top false edge, a small chip in the middle blade edge and the middle top false edge, some scattered scratching, finish abrading, pitting, and patina at each side of the blade, a bit of loosening to the middle handle washers, and with some scattered age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the knife is in fine shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it features a 6 1/8″ spearpoint blade with the traditional top false edge that retains approximately 80% of the original parkerized finish, boasts a stacked leather washer “tootsie roll” handle, and sports the familiar “forward bent” steel guard, black plastic spacers, and pinned steel pommel, the latter of which bears the classic “flaming bomb acceptance stamp of the Ordnance Department. Otherwise, the scabbard is in fine shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it’s also unmarked as to its maker or date, carries the traditional 8 metal “staples” at the throat, metal rivets and brownish cotton stitching down the sides, darkened metal reinforcement plate at the front end tip, and darkened brass grommet at bottom, and the set is a fine example of a very rare, original US Navy WW2 M-3 FIGHTING TRENCH KNIFE.
