This is an extremely fine pre-World War II U. Navy/Marine Corps Distinguished Service Medal with split broach that is in excellent condition. The planchet is with a beautiful gold frosted finish and flawless enamel work. It is with correct beveled edge. The star is with white enamel, anchor in the center, and with gold balls at the tips of the arms. The hinge between the star and the planchet swings freely and is of the correct thicker style that is characteristic of the pre and WWII issue pieces.
