VINTAGE CAGLECO USN G-1 LEATHER FLIGHT JACKET, VETERAN! Sz42 USED-FREE USA SHIP
VINTAGE GENUINE ORIGINAL CAGLECO USN G-1 LEATHER FLIGHT JACKET, REAL VETERAN! SIZE 42 USED GC. This G-1 is truly vintage. It dates to the early to mid-1950’s because it has the USN paint stencil on the back of the collar and no perforated USN on the leather wind flap- they started using the perforations in the mid/late 1950’s. The jacket shows heavy wear in some areas, has some old and some new repairs but is still a presentable, wearable jacket for casual. It’s got that great well worn 100 mission look that I think is really cool! I wish I could wear it myself but it’s way too small for me… I originally had listed this jacket without repairing a small hole in the right shoulder or giving it any leather treatment. But I’m laid up right now recovering from surgery so I decided to correct those two things. The small hole is now repaired with a permanent flexible repair product that matches the color perfectly. I gave it a dose of liquid lanolin which is an odorless natural animal oil to moisturize the leather. Then I gave it a good coat of Black Rock leather conditioner which really does wonders for the dyed surface of the leather. It really brought out the old style gorgeous dark seal brown color. The appearance of the jacket really popped! Better than I ever expected. A squadron patch of your choice would really top it off nicely. Cagleco Sportswear was famous for manufacturing some of the nicest, highest quality flight gear to the Navy. Here is a more detailed description of the tougher spots for the record. Some scuffing and flaking of the leather in areas. The scuffing areas are consistent with normal wear. The flaking is common and normal on this era jacket because of the tanning/dyeing process used which is different than is used currently. Sort of dates the jacket. I had correct replacement cuff and waist webbing installed by my leather smith. The old stuff was shot. When I received the jacket the mouton collar was split right in the center. I had my leather smith repair this also, 1. Because it’s very hard to find replacement mouton that looks correct on old jackets and 2. Because I’m a firm believer in keeping these jackets as original as possible. The repair came out OK but the area of the split is stiff where it was glued. The zipper is an old YKK replacement which is as close to the original Talon as you can get. It was there when I got the jacket. The original label is present but hard to read. I think the contract number is NSN3835 (or s) -3211A. It’s tagged Size 42. The original 42 size tag is still attached to the inside of one of the patch pockets. There is some glue residue up around the tag area. Acetone might remove it but I didn’t want to take any chances so I’ll leave that up to the next owner. The rest of the Rayon lining is actually intact and very nice. NO EXCUSES HERE, IT’S BEEN WORN – NOT A CLOSET QUEEN. AND IT’S AT LEAST 63 YEARS OLD, KOREAN WAR ERA. NOTE: As to sizing. For those who are not familiar with these vintage military jackets, actual sizing usually runs about a size smaller than the tag size. Also, the G-1 is a waist length jacket so body lengths run on the short side. So this jacket would probably best fit someone who normally wears a 36 to 40R jacket. Please see measurements below. Armpit to armpit, bi-swing NOT expanded 20-1/2. Sleeve length from shoulder seam to end of cuff webbing 25. Body length in back from collar seam to bottom of waist webbing 23″ It’s 4″ longer in front. I have more photos available if anyone wants them. Both before and after treating the leather.
