Kirby Morgan KMB-10/USN MK-1 MOD 0 Band Mask. 1976 Based on the Kirby-Morgan KMB-10 Bandmask, the U. Navy approves the MK-1 MOD 0 Light-weight, Mixed-Gas Diving Outfit for dives to 300 fsw on helium-oxygen. Prototype (possibly one-of-a-kind) face port retainer incorporating recessed seating surfaces for hex head cap screws rather than the common slotted or cross-head screws. Manufactured by Commercial Diving Division of U. Original owner: HT aboard U. Trieste made dives to depths up to 20,000 feet during this time period. After USN, original owner worked offshore GOM for Oceaneering International in 1980s. Equipped in 1980s with 12/24 volt, 250 watt Birns Oceanographics Snooperette II for underwater welding contracts. Upgraded with DSI HeliOx 18 air train and whisker exhaust kit in 1980s. Clam shell head protector obtained in 1989/1990 timeframe for contract work with increased overhead hazards. Upgraded with new stronger KMB-28 main frame in 1992. Used occasionally throughout 1990s after purchasing SL-27 mid-year 1992. Life Saving Equipment Supply Band Mask Bag included. Current owner retired from Commercial Diving in 2015 after 35 years. Band Mask would require overhaul, upgrades, maintenance and inspection for current certification prior to diving.
