PEARL HARBOR World War II Group BERNARD J. AINSWORTH USS Enterprise US NAVY WW2
PEARL HARBOR World War II Group BERNARD J. AINSWORTH USS Enterprise Prichett WW2. A framed collection of World War II Awards, Medals, Dog Tags, and Sterling Silver Sweetheart Bracelet, all from Bernard J. Ainsworth, #382-16-80, Boatswain’s Mate 1st Class, who served from 1940 to 1946. We are pleased to present this framed World War II grouping for your consideration. It comes to us from the estate of Bernard J. Ainsworth , #382-16-80, who was a Boatswain’s Mate 1st Class. He served from 1940 to 1946 and saw service aboard the esteemed U. Enterprise (CV-6) as well as the U. Prichett (DD-561) and U. The grouping includes six (6) Medals with Ribbons (none named), two (2) Dog Tags, a 1991 U. Mint Pearl Harbor Award Medal, a personalized Sterling Silver Sweetheart Bracelet, a Department of the Navy / United States of America Seal, and Mr. Ainsworth’s Naval Bars with assorted attached stars. The entire grouping is enclosed in a nice wooden frame and protected behind glass or plexiglass. One large engraved plaque at the bottom gives Mr. Ainsworth’s service information, while three smaller plaques towards the top give additional information (we note a couple of mistakes, Prichett is spelled wrong, and the Carroll name has been shortened, perhaps to fit the available space). The frame measures 18-1/2 inches high, 14-1/2 inches wide, and is 1-3/4 inches deep. It weighs 4-3/4 pounds. The display is attached to the frame with six (6) Phillips head screws (one of which is missing). The glass or plexiglass is held in the frame with silicone or a similar material, but we found a loose piece when we opened the frame up. We also see some of the material coming loose from one corner. A sufficient amount remains to keep the cover securely in place, but we wanted to mention it. The wood frame itself is in excellent shape, clean, and showing little wear. The velvet covered display area has a bit of dust, but is in great shape. The Medals, Bars, and other period items show age appropriate wear and soil, but all look quite good (see close up pictures to the right of the big picture, above). We rate the overall condition of this item as very good to excellent (see pictures). This is an impressive grouping from one of the most significant military periods in the history of the United States (and the world for that matter). It would make a wonderful addition to any military collection! Looking for more great Antiques? We are located HERE.
